CPD SYCHDYN ARE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2016/17.

By Admin

CPD Sychdyn will be presented with the league champions trophy following the final game of the season when they play Cefn Mawr Rangers, at home, on 13th May.

Their 4-3 success at Offa Athletic secured them the title, taking the lead in the 10th minute through Ryan Williams only to be pegged back by an equaliser from Callum Jones five minutes later Nick Van Miert gave them the lead again after 30 minutes and Terry Pughe increased that lead to put them 3-1 at half time. A Terry Pughe penalty after 80 minutes gave them a 4-1 advantage and they must have thought that was the job done until Offa struck back through Phil Stott (82,88), Sychdyn then held on and had to wait for news from Cefn Mawr Rangers to see if they had done enough to win the title.
As it turned out Cefn could only draw 1-1 with Mynydd Isa Spartans, Lewis Jones putting the home side ahead after 55 minutes only for Aidie Davies to level four minutes later, that was enough to give Sychdyn the title although the runners up will not be determined until next Saturday when, in the final game of the season, Cefn go to Sychdyn and the result of that game will decide if it is Cefn or Mynydd Isa that are second.
In the only other game in the league, Acton won 3-1 at Halkyn Utd, Kyle Coppack, Nathan Jones and Joe Garner for the visitors, Sean Wilkes for Halkyn.
