North East Wales Football League are making a stand against Discrimination

By Admin

To coincide with the 25th Anniversary of the Kick it Out Campaign, North East Wales League are running a season long Campaign promoting good practice in Equality and Diversity.

The 2018-2019 season of the North East Wales League will see the teams taking a huge step for grass roots football. The league has planned and arranged a season long campaign promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in football. Issues such as racism, homophobia and discrimination are unfortunately still making headlines for the wrong reasons even at the highest level of football, but the North East Wales League is hoping to address these issues in order to stamp out all issues of discrimination in football and hopefully inspire other clubs or other leagues to follow their example and start being proactive when dealing with equality and diversity in football.

The campaign will run all season with guest speakers from all areas of equality backgrounds addressing the clubs and referees from the North East Wales League, aiming to change the way issues are dealt with on the pitch, but also the way clubs approach equality matters with new players, allowing current players to be comfortable enough to talk about equality matters in the club and as well being role models within their communities.

The original idea of finding a way to promote equality and diversity in the league was the brain child of the late secretary, Mike Beech. Following his sad and untimely passing, the role of secretary fell to his daughter Nicola Beech, who not only continued the great work that Mike was renowned for, but she has spent the time making the league her own. She took the original idea and began putting together a comprehensive and wide ranging programme to ensure that no stone is left unturned in the quest for equality in the league.

The campaign will see the likes of Show Racism the Red Card, the North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner, British Red Cross and Wrexham Inclusion Football Club among many others and will begin in September running until the end of the season.
