NORTH EAST WALES FOOTBALL LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

Mynydd Isa Spartans 3 (Walker pen 24, Fleetwood 78, Wiles 84)
Lex XI 2 (Huxley 14, Evans pen 35)
Two late goals earned Mynydd Isa a cracking win which also halted Lex’s early unbeaten record.

The Lawmen started the better and took a deserved 14th minute lead when a through ball put Tom Huxley in on goal and he finished really well.

That seemed to spur the Spartans on as George Davies pinched the ball off the Lex defence and raced forward, but before he got his shot away he was brought down and a penalty was given.

Jordan Walker dispatched the kick into the top right-hand corner to make it 1-1 after 24 minutes.

The remainder of the half was even with both sides having chances, then off a corner Lex won a penalty as Aide Davies was adjudged to have impeded an opponent and the referee pointed to the spot.
Veteran Ricky Evans converted the penalty calmly down the middle.

In the second half the Spartans started brightly and on the front foot, but Lex continuously looked dangerous on the break.
Both sides had openings they could not convert until on 78 minutes a free kick from Mark Atkinson was turned home by fellow centre half Mike Fleetwood after Lex XI keeper Lewis Hallam had spilled the ball.

This really turned up the intensity in the game and Lex had a couple of good chances, forcing Karl Billingsley into a fantastic save.
Then with minutes to go a corner which Lex cleared was recycled by George Davies, who delivered a cross to the back post and there was substitute Jay Wiles to head home over the keeper from 10 yards.
