Halkyn and Flint Mountain Football Club reveal a change of home ground

Halkyn and Flint Mountain Football Club have announced some exciting news – they are relocating to a top North Wales ground.

The current tier 4 North East Wales Premier Division club will share a home with Cymru Premier outfit Flint Town United at their Essity Stadium from next season.

Mountain are close to sealing promotion to the tier 3 Ardal Northern League. The club was granted a third-tier licence for the first time by the FAW this week.

Although Greenfield have won the North East Wales Premier title, they are not ready to accept promotion on facilities grounds. Mountain are able to go up instead if they finish second. Four points from their remaining three games should be enough to assure this.

Halkyn and Flint Mountain said in a club statement: “Halkyn & Flint Mountain Football Club are today delighted to announce that the club has secured a return to Flint after a ten-year absence from our hometown. “The club has entered into an agreement to share the pitch and facilities at the Essity Stadium, home of Flint Town United Football Club.

“The JD Cymru Premier side have allowed us the use of the facilities and the upcoming 3G pitch for matches and training. Halkyn & Flint Mountain Football Club would like to put on record our sincere thanks to Flint Town United FC and their chairman, Darryl Williams, for allowing our club the chance to use the Tier One and UEFA standard facilities at the Essity Stadium.

“The move sees the club awarded a tier-three licence for the first time for the 2022/23 season, which was confirmed by the FAW yesterday.

“The move in the summer will see the club leave our current home at Pant Newydd in Halkyn after three years. We thank Halkyn United Juniors for their support during our time in Halkyn.

“Ahead of the move in the summer, Halkyn & Flint Mountain will be staging our final home league fixture against Overton Recreational at the Essity Stadium on Saturday 14th May, kick off 12.30 pm, £3 entry.

“We invite everyone to come and see us in action as we look to cement second place in the league to secure promotion to the Ardal Leagues next season.”

History of Flint Mountain FC
The club was formed in 2009 as Flint Mountain FC and joined the North East Wales League.

They played on a number of pitches in and around Flint before switching to Northop Hall Pavilion, home of Northop Hall Ladies team.
The 2018-19 season was one of great success for the club as they claimed the North East Wales League title and North East Wales FA Horace Wynne Cup, as part of a quadruple.

They moved into the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) the following season on the back of their promotion as champions.

Prior to the 2019–20 season commencing, Flint Mountain announced they would be moving once more, from the Northop Hall Pavilion to Halkyn United’s old pitch, Pant Newydd.

As a result of the relocation, the team changed its name to Halkyn & Flint Mountain to acknowledge the move to Pentre Halkyn.

The club joined the newly-formed North East Wales Football League in 2020 as a tier 4 Premier Division side.

The pandemic put paid to the 2020-21 season in Wales, which was cancelled at all levels except Tier 1, but Mountain have performed well this term in the new league and now aim for promotion before launching their most exciting chapter yet.
