Hat-trick hero Iorwerth Jones helped ensure Corwen enjoy early leadership of the North East Wales League Premier Division table after making it back-to-back wins on Saturday.
Following up their 2-0 success at Greenfield on matchday one, Jamie Hulse’s men produced six second-half goals to see off Coedpoeth 6-0 at the War Memorial Ground.
The home side had most of the early play and looked to take the lead when Owen Cordiner lined up a shot; however goalkeeper Callum Thurnham was able to save with his feet.
Scott Evans was the next to try his luck as he went for goal from a 25-yard free kick, but Thurnham pulled off a great stop.
Despite being under the cosh for the majority of the game Coedpoeth could have edged ahead when Adam Lloyd got through on goal, but his shot was blocked.
The last action of the half saw Scott Evans whip a corner into the penalty area, where Les Brophy’s header was saved at the far post.
Seven minutes into the second half came the breakthrough. Scott Evans passed the ball onto Tomos Williams, who saw his shot saved by Thurnham and rebound into the path of Iorwerth Jones, who sent a low shot under the Coedpoeth number one to open the scoring.
With just under 20 minutes to play the home side doubled their advantage when Cordiner delivered into the penalty area from the wing and found the feet of Jones, who placed the ball home.
Three minutes later Jones completed his hat-trick as he headed home a Henry Evans cross at the far post.
Tomos Williams clattered the bar before his next shot went in off a defender for 4-0.
Corwen rubbed salt into the Coedpoeth wounds in the closing stages, as Benjamin Wilson-Davies played a wonderful cross into the box, where the unfortunate Aaron Camplin sent the ball into the back of his own net as he attempted to clear.
A minute later Alex Webster played a peach of a cross into the area, where Brophy nodded in at the far post.
