FC Plas Madoc 2 Corwen 2
(Plas Madoc won 4-2 on penalties)
An early Challenge Cup exit for Corwen as they went out on penalties at the MUGA to Plas Madoc from a division below in the North East Wales League

A week after progressing in the Welsh Cup with a 3-1 win at Caerwys, Corwen were back in knockout competition action again, but this time the outcome was not as pleasurable.

In a game played in wintry conditions, including heavy rain, the home side found the back of the net early on, but the goal was disallowed.

At the other end Iorwerth Jones could not make the most of a good opportunity.

In the 22nd minute Plas Madoc broke the deadlock as Corwen failed to clear their lines, allowing Nicky Williams to find Oliver Roberts, who slotted into the far corner of the net.

Corwen levelled in first half stoppage time, when Henry Evans expertly floated a free kick into the penalty area, where Matthew Williams got the better of his marker and dinked the ball over oncoming goalkeeper Aaron Jones to score.

After the interval Iorwerth Jones played the ball to Alex Webster, who from a promising position was only able to drag his shot wide.

Henry Evans saw two good efforts saved by Aaron Jones as the visitors pushed for a second.

Iorwerth Jones tested Aaron Jones, who then held an Alex Webster attempt blasted straight at him.

The visitors took the lead in the 76th minute, as Dafydd Evans was able to find Matthew Williams, who blasted the ball home.

Iorwerth Jones had an opportunity to give his side a two-goal cushion from close range; but sent his shot against the bar.

With just over quarter of an hour to play, the scores were level.

Nicky Williams curled the ball into the penalty area from near the touchline, it went through everyone and clipped the inside of the post on its way into the net.

In the closing stages Robbie Williams almost won it for Corwen when he rattled the bar.

With no further goals the game had to be decided by a penalty shootout, which Plas won after Aaron Jones saved two before Ramone Nelson put away the winning kick.

Greenfield 4 Connah’s Quay Town 6
A 10-goal thriller at the Bernie Williams Memorial Ground saw visitors Town finish triumphant.

Sam Edwards scored first for Greenfield on 12 minutes, but Jordan Hensel levelled with 19 gone before Lee Jones made it 2-1 Quay after 29.

Owen Edwards added a third for the visitors, but Ryan Jones pulled one back for the home team before the break.

Hensel nudged Town 4-2 ahead five minutes into the second half and he completed his hat-trick with 64 on the clock.

Ryan Jones netted on 82 and 85 to claim his personal treble and make it 4-5, but sub Kyle Amos bagged Town’s decisive sixth after 90.

Greenfield had Ethan Evans red-carded in added time.

Johnstown 0 Mynydd Isa 12
Kris Turner and substitute Joe Mitchell both pocketed hat-tricks as Mynydd Isa rattled up a dozen at Johnstown.

Sam Wainwright and James Beck added two apiece and there was one each for Jay Wiles and Iwan Rogers.

CPD Yr Wyddgrug 7 Aston Park Rangers 1
Quite a surprise as following 8-3 and 11-1 defeats in their first two games, new side Yr Wyddgrug bounced back in some style to thrash fellow Championship outfit Aston Park Rangers out of sight.
