HORACE WYNNE CUP
FC Queen’s Park 2 (Latham pen 25, Hughes 35)
Connah’s Quay Town 1 (Leonard 83)
Horace Wynne Cup holders Queen’s Park advanced with a narrow win in a cracking tie against Connah’s Quay Town.

Both teams made early inroads at The Tip, but Park steadied themselves quickest. With Liam Davies playing up front, they always looked a threat.

After a quick series of corners, Davies won a penalty after he was pushed from behind. The dependable Mikey Latham blasted into the bottom corner with 25 minutes played.

Soon after Davies rode some fierce challenges and was unlucky to slice his shot wide.

In the 35th minute, the hosts earned another flag kick and after a delightful ball from Dylan Jones, Luke Hughes jumped highest to loop a great header into the top corner.

Half-time: 2-0
The second half was a completely different affair as the Park were forced to sit back and defend for their lives.

Whilst territorially it was all Town, Park still broke well and had a number of chances. Davies, Latham and Leroy Ngema went close, the latter bending one against the crossbar.

At the other end it was all rearguard action. Josh Edwards was dominant on all crosses and the Park goal led a charmed life.

Town did eventually get one back in the 83rd minute through Jake Leonard, but the Park held on with 10 men after Liam Davies had received his marching orders for a second yellow card.
